State Epidemiological Outcomes Workgroup

The State Epidemiological Outcomes Workgroup (SEOW) is a partnership between the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services and Wright State University. The program is funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Center for Substance Abuse Prevention. Utilizing the principles of outcome-based prevention, the SEOW is designed to create and oversee the strategic use of data to inform and guide substance abuse prevention policy and program development in Ohio. Through ongoing and integrated data analyses, the SEOW will implement SAMHSA's Strategic Prevention Framework. The five-step process includes:

  1. assessment of population needs, resources and readiness;
  2. mobilization and capacity building to address needs;
  3. prevention planning and funding decisions;
  4. implementation of evidence-based prevention programs; and
  5. evaluation of key outcomes and plan adjustments.

The SEOW will play a critical role in collecting and reporting Ohio data for National Outcome Measures for Prevention (NOMs), which is a set of domains and indicators that the SAMHSA will use to meet all of its federal reporting requirements.

State and county-level epidemiological profiles are being produced that summarize alcohol, tobacco, and other drug consumption patterns and associated consequences across the life span. These profiles will be made available online in portable document format (pdf) and searchable database formats.
