Carolyn Long receives the Dean’s Award
DAYTON, OHIO--Howard Part, M.D., dean for Wright State University School
of Medicine presented the Dean’s Award to Carolyn Long, during
graduation ceremonies held at the Schuster Performing Arts Center on
June 6th.
The Dean’s award is given to a graduating medical student who exemplifies
the school’s goals and who has made important contributions to
the school.
Long is a native of Middletown, Ohio, and is one of fourteen children
from the family of Bernard and Carolyn Long. She holds a B.S. in biochemistry
from the University of Notre Dame in Southbend, Indiana, and a M.A. in
education from the University of Portland.
Long is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. She has
represented the class of 2003 as part of their student council as treasurer
and served as co-chair on their fundraising committee. She is a member
of Phi Rho Sigma, the American Medical Association, the American Medical
Student Association, American Medical Women’s Association, and
the Internal Medicine Interest Group.
Long taught anatomy and biochemistry as a supplemental instructor for
Wright State’s prematriculation program, a program that introduces
first year medical students to material seen within the first year of
medical school.
Long volunteers with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Dayton, has volunteered
at Reach Out of Montgomery County, helped to develop health screenings
for the St. Vincent DePaul Homeless Shelter, and led health-related discussions
at area schools as part of the Student-to-Student Program.
Long has chosen the field of internal medicine and will serve her residency
with the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina
