W. Scott Richardson, M.D., to be honored with Teaching Excellence
Award by the WSU Boonshoft School of Medicine class of 2009
Professor of medicine will be presented with award during commencement
ceremony on May 22
DAYTON, Ohio—During a commencement ceremony for the Wright State
University Boonshoft School of Medicine class of 2009, graduates will
take a moment to recognize an exceptional faculty member for his outstanding
contributions to their education.
W. Scott Richardson, M.D., will be presented with the annual Teaching
Excellence Award by class representative Alyssa J. Gans during the evening
ceremony, which will be held at the Schuster Performing Arts Center in
downtown Dayton. The class chose Richardson, a professor in the school’s
department of internal medicine, for his “outstanding professional
skill and pride in discharging his instructional duties.”
Richardson earned his medical degree from Georgetown University before
completing a residency and fellowship at the University of Rochester
Medical Center. In addition to his teaching duties, Richardson serves
as chief of the Division of Internal Medicine and as Director of the
Internal Medicine Clerkship. He also co-directs the required second-year
course “Principles of Evidence-Based Clinical Decision Making.”
In 2006, the medical school’s Office of Faculty and Clinical Affairs
selected Richardson for its Faculty Mentor Award for serving as a role
model, promoting professional development and creating a supportive and
positive working environment. The class of 2009 also recognized Richardson
in 2008 with an annual Teaching Excellence Award presented by third-year
medical students.
