in addition to medical degree
Angelos was honored during commencement ceremony for the WSU
Boonshoft School of Medicine class of 2009
DAYTON, Ohio—For Tyler M. Angelos, following in his father’s
footsteps turned out to be a straight path to recognition for his own
remarkable achievements. Angelos, whose father is an emergency medicine
physician at The Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, received
his medical degree and several other prestigious honors during a commencement
ceremony for the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine
class of 2009 on May 22.
Angelos was the recipient of the 2009 Dean’s Award, which is presented
annually to a member of the graduating class who demonstrates a commitment
to academic excellence, embodies empathy and compassion toward others,
exemplifies personal integrity and professionalism, and has earned the
respect and trust of classmates and faculty.
In addition to the Dean’s Award and his M.D. degree, Angelos was
recognized with two more honors during the evening ceremony, which took
place in the Schuster Performing Arts Center in downtown Dayton.
First he received the Dan W. Elliott, M.D., Award, presented each year
to a student committed to a career in surgery who has shown outstanding
performance in surgery during the clinical years. Secondly, along with
fellow graduate David W. Morris, Angelos was selected for a Merck Manual
Award for scholastic achievement in medical studies.
During medical school, Angelos made time to participate in several activities,
earned numerous academic honors and awards and received multiple scholarships.
In 2008, he was among the few third-year students chosen for early induction
into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society; he subsequently served
the organization as president. During his fourth year of medical school,
he was also admitted to the Gold Humanism Honor Society.
A native of Upper Arlington, Ohio, just outside Columbus, Angelos graduated
from Upper Arlington High School and earned a B.S. in zoology from Brigham
Young University. Following his graduation from Wright State, Angelos
and his wife, Deborah, will return to Columbus, where he will become
a plastic surgery resident at the Ohio State University Medical Center.
