Medical Student Receives the People's Choice Award
DAYTON, OHIO--Emese Kalnoki-Kis, a third-year medical student, received the People's Choice Award at Wright State University School of Medicine's inaugural art exhibit, The Healer as Artist. Her entry, "Danny," was a colorful portrait of her dog. Second place award went to Carol Levine, M.D., assistant professor of internal medicine and a 1994 alumnae of the school. Her entry was called "Boy with Dog."
Fifty-five entries were received from faculty, students, and staff. Mary White, Ph.D., assistant professor of community health, and Lynn McDonald, M.D., assistant clinical professor of internal medicine, were the co-directors of the new event. "Many members of our medical school possess artistic talents that are hidden behind busy schedules and demanding lives," explains McDonald. "We were delighted to share the creativity and vision of our health care community and get to know each other better," adds White. "The response to the show has been so positive we hope to make it an annual event."
The exhibit included art in several media: photography, sculpting, drawing, pottery making, painting, poetry, and quilting.
