Mossman named Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association

DAYTON, OHIO -- Douglas Mossman, M.D. was selected as a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association at the organization's annual meeting in Toronto, Ontario. Mossman has taught psychiatry at Wright State University School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio, since 1993. He is professor and director of Division of Forensic Psychiatry at Wright State.
Fellowship in the APA, the Western Hemisphere's major psychiatric association, recognizes the select segment of its 40,000 members who have made special contributions through teaching, community service, scholarship, patient care, and work in professional organizations. Psychiatrists must receive approval from local, state, and national psychiatric associations before becoming APA Fellows.

Besides his Wright State post, Mossman holds an adjunct faculty position at the University of Dayton School of Law, where he teaches a course on law and mental disability. He also serves as a consultant to Twin Valley Psychiatric System-Dayton Campus (a public sector psychiatric hospital), and maintains a private practice evaluating and treating adults and adolescents.

Mossman has published over 60 articles in medical journals, legal periodicals, and the popular press, and he has made more than 90 presentations to local and national audiences. Mossman's recent scholarship have addressed issues involving the interactions between psychiatry and legal issues, and he currently is writing a book on Ohio law and mental health professionals. He also has published scholarly articles about ethics, statistics, psychopharmacology, and medical decision making.
