Application Process and Criteria
The Wright State University Integrated Surgical Residency Program has
seven categorical positions per year. Four positions are filled through
the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP),
and three positions are filled through the Air Force Selection Board.
We have preliminary positions as well that are available through the
NRMP and Air Force Selection Board.
We are currently accepting applications only through the Electronic
Residency Application Service (ERAS). You can access additional
information about our residency program via the American Medical Association's FREIDA
Online.
The deadline date for receipt of applications is November 1, 2007, for
positions beginning on July 1, 2008.
First consideration for categorical or preliminary positions will be
given to applicants:
- With minimum Step I score of 200.
- Grade of A or honors on MS-III surgery core clerkship.
- Class ranking in upper quartile.
- Excellent letters of reference.
The above criteria are intended to serve as guidelines only.
All applicants seeking categorical or preliminary positions must be
registered with the NRMP and must apply through ERAS. We do not sponsor
any type of VISA, or accept any applications received through the U.S.
postal service.
Interviews
All applicant files are screened as soon as the dean's letters are received
and files are complete. Invitations are extended to those applicants
with credentials suggesting a strong candidacy for general surgery. Applicants
are invited to visit our program on Wednesday mornings during the last
week in November through the month of January.
The visit generally is a half day in duration. An overview of the program
is provided. Prospective residents have the opportunity to meet with
three to four faculty including the Program Director/Chair. During the
visit, residents are available to answer questions. The day concludes
with lunch and a wrap-up with residents.
