Plastic Surgery Residency Program
Thank you for your interest in the Independent
Plastic Surgery Residency Program at Boonshoft School of Medicine. We
invite you to explore the many facets of our program, our research and
our annual community service projects. As a full academic department
in a medical school, we strive to graduate highly competent and compassionate
practitioners in plastic surgery. Our program encompasses clinical and
didactic experience in plastic, maxillofacial surgery, orthognathic surgery,
hand surgery and combined orthopedic plastic surgery hand service, teaching
techniques, research in cell biology and wounds. A curious and problem-oriented
attitude is fostered by an EBM practice-based and improvement learning,
case analysis, and faculty role models. Confidence is promoted through
active evaluation and feedback.
Our program received its initial accreditation in May 2006 for a three-year
independent program. Our first resident began on July 2006. Our plan
is to transition over the next three years to a combined three-year General
Surgery and three-year Plastic Surgery program.
Our program is accredited for one resident per year. As an independent
program, we will be transitioning into a combined program starting 2010.
Therefore, we are accepting applicants to match for 2009 through the San Francisco Match (Plastic Surgery Central Application Services)
in addition to an R-1 Preliminary General Surgery slot to begin July
2008 through ERAS.
The Plastic Surgery Residency is a three-year independent program supported
by area hospitals including The Children's Medical Center, Good Samaritan
Hospital and Health Center, Kettering Memorial Hospital, Miami Valley
Hospital, and Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine Campus.
