The primary goal of disaster preparedness is the protection and preservation of human capital. Medical readiness is essential to fulfill that goal. Homeland security must include a secure and resilient system of health care.”

Welcome

The National Center for Medical Readiness (NCMR) provides medically oriented education, training, product testing, and research opportunities for medical, public health, public safety, and civilian and military personnel at its 52-acre Tactical Laboratory, Calamityville®.

  • NCMR focuses on preparing first 'responders' to become First Providers: The civilian and military health professionals at all levels who respond to natural disasters, public health emergencies and the consequences of weapons of mass destruction.
  • It also facilitates training and exercises that allow traditional first 'receivers' (healthcare facility based providers) to move their operations into the field environment.
  • Lastly, because of its unique position as part of a fully-integrated military-civilian emergency medicine residency training program and geographic proximity to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, it serves as an environment to enhance the civilian-military interface in advance of and during a medical response caring for civilians.
  • Through its training, education, programs, and research, NCMR:
    • identifies the unique teamwork demands for medical decision-making and operations within stressful, difficult and extreme environments.
    • integrates task training, classroom and field education, high-fidelity simulation and exercises.
    • offers a wide variety of emulated disaster environments and challenging field care settings transitioning to medical facility simulated settings at its Calamityville site.

NCMR is a division of the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine Department of Emergency Medicine. It is a Center of Excellence in the University System of Ohio and within Wright State University.
