How many residency slots do you have?

We accept 10 residents per year.

How old is your program?

The predecessors of our program were established as the Good Samaritan Family Practice Residency and the Miami Valley Hospital Family Practice Residency, both in 1972. These programs merged to form the Wright State University Family Medicine Residency in 2008.

Is your program opposed or unopposed?

While specialty residents rotate in our hospitals, we are primarily unopposed on the majority of our rotations.

Dr. Nicholas Davis received a Resident of the Year Award from the Miami Valley Academy of Family Physicians.

How much call do residents take?

Call is rotation specific but no greater than q4 for first-year residents. During the second and third years, call responsibilities vary by rotation, and are primarily taken from home.

What fellowship opportunities are available to graduates of your family medicine residency?

In addition to the Boonshoft School of Medicine Geriatric Fellowship that we sponsor, our residents have done very well in obtaining fellowship placement in obstetrics and sports medicine. Academic medicine fellowships are also available.

An initiative known as Family Medicine Dayton, led by Ted Wymyslo, M.D., former program director of the Miami Valley Hospital Family Practice Residency, aims to develop a cutting-edge medical home practice model in Dayton.
