Teresa
W. Zryd, M.D., M.S.P.H., is the director
of the Wright State University Family Medicine
Residency Program. She was previously director
of the Dayton Community Family Medicine Residency
Program and is vice chair of graduate medical
education for the Department of Family Medicine.
She is a 1995 graduate of Wright State University
Boonshoft School of Medicine and a graduate
of the Dayton Community Family Medicine Residency
Program, where she also served as chief resident.
Dr. Zryd joined the residency as faculty in
August 1998. She is an associate professor
in the Department of Family Medicine, and also
holds a master's in public health from Western
Kentucky University. Dr. Zryd serves as chief
medical consultant for the Dayton Public Schools
and team physician for Fairborn City Schools.
Her special interests include preventive medicine,
school/public health, and adolescent medicine. |

Michael T.
Boggs, M.D.,
is board certified by the American Board of Family
Medicine and is an assistant clinical professor
of family medicine at Wright State University.
Dr. Boggs is a graduate of The Ohio State University
and received his M.D. degree from the Medical
College of Ohio. He completed his residency
training at the Good Samaritan Family Practice
Program, where he served as chief resident.
Dr. Boggs maintains a full time practice in
the rural community of Lewisburg, providing
the full spectrum of family medicine, from
newborn care to pediatric and adult medicine. |

Katherine
A. Clark, D.O., F.A.A.F.P., F.A.I.H.Q.,
an associate director in the residency, has
been faculty since 1995. Dr Clark is an attending
on the inpatient service and precepts in the
family health center. She is an associate professor
in the Department of Family Medicine at Wright
State University Boonshoft School of Medicine.
A graduate of the Ohio University College of
Osteopathic Medicine, where she has an appointment
as a clinical professor, she has an interest
in osteopathic manipulative therapy. She is certified
in quality improvement and utilization review
and is a health plan medical director. Dr Clark
has been active in organized medicine locally
and at the state and national level. Special
clinical interests include care of the elderly,
preventive care and women's health. |

Joan Cooper, M.D., associate
director and obstetrics and women's health coordinator, is a 1984 graduate
of Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine
and completed the family practice residency program
at Miami Valley Hospital in 1987. She became
an associate director of the Miami Valley Hospital
Family Practice Residency Program in 1995. Dr.
Cooper has a Certificate of Added Qualifications
in Geriatrics and serves as an assistant clinical
professor in the Department of Family Medicine
at WSU Boonshoft School of
Medicine. She has also completed additional training
in OB/GYN and supervises the family practice
obstetrics track.

Denise
A. Griffith, M.D., is a graduate of
the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine
and received her bachelor’s degree from
The Ohio State University. She completed her
Family Practice Residency at Miami Valley Hospital
in 1994. Dr. Griffith was in private practice
at East Dayton Health Center and part-time faculty
for the family practice residency at Miami Valley
Hospital until July 2008 when she joined the
Wright State University Family Medicine Residency
full time as an associate director and inpatient
service coordinator on the Miami Valley Hospital
campus. She is also an assistant clinical professor
in the Department of Family Medicine at Wright
State University. Her interests are providing
healthcare for an underserved community, incorporating
faith in practice, and inpatient medicine. |

Paul J. Hershberger,
Ph.D., became the director of behavioral
science for the residency program in 2001. A
licensed psychologist, Dr. Hershberger earned
his Ph.D. in counseling psychology at The Ohio
State University in 1989. He is a professor in
the Department of Family Medicine and is board
certified in clinical health psychology by the
American Board of Professional Psychology. In
addition to his teaching responsibilities with
the residency, Dr. Hershberger maintains an active
research program as well as a private practice.
Specific interests include health promotion,
stress and coping, treatment adherence and cognitive
therapy. Dr. Hershberger's monthly electronic
newsletter, e-quilibrium, addresses
a variety of topics pertaining to behavior and

Erin
Lindsay Mathews, M.D., Obstetrics
and Women's Health Faculty, joined the Miami
Valley Hospital Family Practice Residency faculty
in 2005. She is a 2002 graduate of Wright State
University Boonshoft School of Medicine and a
2005 graduate of the Miami Valley Hospital Family
Practice Residency Program. She also completed
a primary care faculty development fellowship
at Michigan State University in 2006, as well
as additional training in obstetrics and gynecology.

Deborah E.
Miller, M.D., associate director and
faculty and resident development coordinator
for the Wright State University Boonshoft School
of Medicine Family Medicine Residency. She graduated
from WSU Boonshoft School
of Medicine in 1991 and completed her residency
training with St. Elizabeth Family Practice Residency,
Dayton, in 1994. She held faculty appointments
with the St. Elizabeth Family Practice Residency
and the Dayton Community Family Medicine Residency,
including primary responsibilities as medical
director of the Indian Ripple Family Health Center
prior to joining the Miami Valley Hospital Family
Practice Residency in 2007. Dr. Miller completed
a faculty development fellowship at Michigan
State University in 2000 and a certificate in
health care management with the American College
of Physician Executives in 2006. She is currently
an assistant clinical professor in the Department
of Family Medicine at WSU Boonshoft School of
Medicine. Dr Miller is the current medical
director of the Berry Family Health Center
at the Miami Valley campus. She will finish
a masters degree in Academic Medicine with
the University of Southern California in August
of 2009. Her interests include resident and
faculty development, health care for women,
preventative medicine, medical economics, and
practice management.

Anne M. Proulx, D.O.,
associate director, joined the faculty in 1997
after five years in private practice in Dayton
and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She is a graduate
of the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine
and completed her osteopathic rotating internship
at St. Barnabas Hospital, Bronx, New York. Dr.
Proulx moved to Pittsburgh to complete her family
practice residency at Shadyside Hospital, now University
of Pittsburgh Medicine Center-Shadyside, and is
a diplomat of the American Board of Family Medicine.
In 2000, Dr. Proulx gained additional expertise
and training at the University of North Carolina-Chapel
Hill Academic Fellowship in Family Medicine. She
is an assistant professor in the Department of
Family Medicine. The Wright State University Boonshoft
School of Medicine awarded Dr. Proulx its 2006
Humanism in Medicine Award. Her other interests
lie in patient education, research, women's health
issues and balancing family life. She shares this
latter interest with her husband, Scott, and two
children, Meredith and Daniel. |

H. Dusty
Rhodes, D.O., is the sports medicine
educator, an outpatient preceptor, and inpatient
attending. Dr. Rhodes is a 1982 graduate of
the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine.
He completed his family practice residency
at Miami Valley Hospital in 1991. He also completed
a sports medicine fellowship at Grant Medical
Center in Columbus in 1992 and is certified
in sports medicine. Dr. Rhodes is the coordinator
of education and research at the Miami Valley
Hospital Sports Medicine Center and assistant
clinical professor in the Department of Family
Medicine at Wright State University Boonshoft
School of Medicine. He is involved in team
care with local high schools and serves as
assistant team physician for the University
of Dayton Flyers.

Rhea
Rowser, M.D., associate
director of curriculum, Obstetrics Faculty, is
a 1996 graduate of the University of Cincinnati
College of Medicine. She completed her family
practice residency training at Miami Valley
Hospital in 1999. She completed a primary care
faculty development fellowship at Michigan
State University in 2000. She also has completed
additional training in obstetrics and gynecology
and continues to practice obstetrics. Dr. Rowser
oversees the curriculum for the residency program. |

Michael
J. Ruff, M.D., is a former graduate of
our residency program, completing his training
in 2001. He joined our faculty in January 2006
after spending two years as a member of the faculty
with the Southwest Oklahoma Family Medicine Residency
in Lawton, Oklahoma. Prior to that, he was in private
practice in Englewood, Ohio. He earned an undergraduate
degree from Wright State University and his medical
degree from the Medical College of Ohio at Toledo.
Dr. Ruff is a member of the American Academy of
Family Physicians and an assistant professor with
the Department of Family Medicine of Wright State
University. In addition to his duties in resident
education, he is currently serving as medical director
for the Good Samaritan Family Health Center. His
areas of interest include electronic health records,
preventive medicine, diabetes, obstetrics, and
sports medicine. |

Barry
Skrobot, M.D., is an outpatient preceptor
and inpatient attending for the residency program.
Dr. Skrobot is a graduate of the Ohio State
University College of Medicine and completed
a family practice residency at Miami Valley
Hospital in 1978. He is an assistant professor
in the Department of Family Medicine at Wright
State University Boonshoft School of Medicine
and works in Employee Health at Miami Valley
Hospital and the perinatal clinics of Montgomery
County.

Philip S. Whitecar, M.D., is
a professor of family medicine and geriatrics in the Department of Family Medicine and a member of the American Academy of
Family Physicians. Dr. Whitecar joined the residency
part time in September 1995 and full time in July
1997. He graduated in 1978 from Northeast
Missouri State University in Kirksville, Missouri,
the birthplace of osteopathic medicine. He received
his M.D. degree from the University of Illinois
in 1983 and completed his residency at the University
of Missouri, then served with the National Health
Service Corp in Greenville, Ohio. Since joining
the Wright State University faculty, he has served
as medical director of University
Family Physicians, Indian Ripple Family Health Center, and Ohio's
Integrated Hospice. While enjoying all aspects
of being a family physician, he especially enjoys
managing "difficult" patients and helping
resident physicians prepare for success in the
business of medicine. His special interests include
care of chronic pain and/or addictions, and assisting
patients with lifestyle changes, such as weight
loss and smoking cessation. |

Kathleen
Long Wittberg, M.D., is
graduate of the University of Dayton and University
of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Dr Wittberg
completed her family medicine residency at Good
Samaritan Hospital and has been a part-time faculty
member since 1990. She is a Diplomat of the American
Board of Family Medicine and a Fellow of the American
Academy of Family Medicine. Dr. Wittberg serves
the residency as a preceptor, resident advisor,
and assists the residency in other academic areas.
Her clinical interests are in preventive care,
geriatrics and developmental disabilities. She
is a former recipient of the Attending of the Year
and the Physicians Making a Difference Awards at
Good Samaritan Hospital. Dr. Wittberg is in private
practice in Englewood and is involved with the
Miami Valley Academy of Family Practice serving
both as program director for their annual CME course
and treasurer. She volunteers with Reach Out Dayton,
a local free clinic for the uninsured of the community.
She enjoys hiking, choral singing, cooking and
watching her U.D. Flyer basketball team. |

John R. Miller,
R.Ph., is
the outpatient and inpatient pharmacy
educator for the Wright State University Family
Medicine Residency. He divides his time
between inpatient and outpatient family practice
resident teaching. Initiatives in research, group
medical visits, and anticoagulation management
have begun in the Berry Family Health Center.
John received his pharmacy degree from the University
of Wisconsin, Madison, and has 20 years of experience
as a clinical pharmacist in the hospital setting.
John supervises the education of pharmacy externs
from Ohio Northern University, where he is assistant
clinical professor in the College of Pharmacy,
Department of Pharmacy Practice at Ohio Northern
University. |

Linda Ontko, M.S.
Linda Ontko is the evaluation and education
coordinator for the Wright State University
Family Medicine Residency. Linda has a baccalaureate
degree in radiation medicine from Wittenberg
University and a master's degree in education
from the University of Dayton. She has worked
in the allied health education field as program
director for medical imaging and assistant
academic dean. She has more than 30 years
experience in health care, allied health education,
and accreditation. |
