Curriculum Schedule
Throughout the 36-month Family Medicine Residency Program here at Wright State University there is ample flexibility through electives and individually structured learning experiences to meet your specific educational goals. Advanced exposure to hospitalist medicine, obstetrics, sports medicine and geriatrics is also available. The curriculum meets or exceeds all requirements of the Residency Review Committee of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.

Residency Year 1
The first year focuses on inpatient clinical experiences. You
will rotate at Miami Valley Hospital(MVH) and Good Samaritan Hospita(GSH)l,
as well as the Children's Medical Center of Dayton(CMC) for pediatrics.
You will care for your personal patient panels in your selected
outpatient site one to two half days per week. The first year is
comprised of the following rotations:
- Fundamentals of Family Medicine
- Obstetrics (2 months)
- Emergency Medicine
- Children's Inpatient (2 months)
- Neonatology
- Family Medicine Inpatient (2-3 months)
- Cardiology
- Surgery (1-2 months)

Residency Year 2
In
your second year, you will make the transition toward a more extensive
outpatient care experience and will spend two to three half days
per week caring for your private patients in the office setting.
The second year is comprised of the following rotations:
Children's Emergency Medicine
- Family Medicine Inpatient (1-3 months)
- Surgery (MVH)
- ICU
- Psychiatry
- Dermatology
- Outpatient Pediatrics
- OB (GSH)
- Orthopedics (GSH)
- Gynecology
- Pulmonology
- Elective

Residency Year 3
In your final year of training, you have the opportunity to supervise
junior residents on the inpatient service. Most ambulatory rotations
consist of five half days per week in the office of a sub-specialist
and three to four half days per week caring for your patients in
your office. The third year is comprised of the following rotations:
Community Medicine
- Sports Medicine/Pediatric Orthopedics
- Geriatrics
- Urology/Ophthalmology
- Practice Management
- Family Medicine Service Chief (3 month)
- Orthopedics (MVH)
- ENT
- Electives (2-3)
Didactic lectures occur Wednesday afternoons of every week throughout
all three years of residency training. |
