The mission of the Department of Family Medicine at Wright State University School of Medicine is to train all medical students in general principals of patient care and to select, train, and graduate a high percentage of medical students who select generalist practice as a career choice. This mission will be accomplished:

  • by educating and supporting students and physicians within the framework of family medicine;
  • by providing excellence in primary care service to patients and the community; and
  • by enhancing the discipline of family medicine through scholarly activity.

The department has undergone a great deal of expansion and growth and continues to refine its activities throughout the areas of education, scholarship, administration, and service. In the last several years, the Department of Family Medicine has regularly received either the Silver or Gold Achievement Award from the American Academy of Family Practice in recognition of the high percentage of medical school graduates who enter family practice residencies.
