Policy 15: Research Faculty
Adopted: June 2005
Modified: April 2008
Scientists who have been employed by the university for at least 12 months and participating in Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine (School) research programs are eligible for one-year appointments renewable annually upon recommendation by the departmental chair to the dean.
Salary for these individuals is funded by a fully-affiliated faculty member in the School who serves as the appointee's supervisor. The overriding responsibility of the appointee is research in the supervisor's laboratory. The appointee can compose and submit applications in the role of principal investigator for extramural funding. Research faculty may participate in teaching students. However all activities must be approved by the supervising fully-affiliated faculty member.
Research faculty appointments are contingent on continued funding and participation. Research faculty may participate on relevant committees and task forces. However because of the defined intent of these appointments, research faculty do not participate on School or university committees, and do not vote on issues brought before the departmental, School or the university faculty.
The modifier Research will be used for these faculty whose sole academic commitment is research.
