Journal Club
Goals
1. To provide the residents with an understanding of the nature
and structure of the medical literature including exploring Evidence-based
Medicine topics.
2. To provide guidelines for selective and critical reading of
the medical literature.
3. To provide an understanding of the analytical approach needed
for critical reading of the medical literature.
4. To introduce the residents to the mechanics of medical writing.
5. To provide a format for the residents to keep current of the
literature pertinent to Emergency Medicine.
6. To provide a monthly function for social interaction among residents,
clinical faculty, and full-time faculty.
Time Schedule
6:30–7:30 p.m. Social Hour
7:30–8 p.m. Bibliography Review
8–9 p.m. Journal Article Review
Meeting Date and Place
The second Thursday of the month at a faculty member's home or as
otherwise arranged. Maps will be distributed.
Required Reading
1. Handout for presentation
2. Pre-selected articles for discussion
3. Previous month's Annals of Emergency Medicine
4. Review of assigned journal and write up of annotated bibliography
to share with group.
