Educator Resources from the Western North Carolina Chapter: BrainyActs! is a neuroscience video resource for educators. The site has an upload feature to let you upload your own videos, and a way to rate and comment on the videos that allows educators to assess the suitability for their class. Also on the site is Brain comics! Neuroscientist Dwayne Godwin of the Western North Carolina Chapter and Jorge Cham, who writes and illustrates "PhD Comics," are collaborating on a comic resource, based on published brain research, for educators and lay audiences. Nominations: Science Educator Award
The Science Educator Award is
presented each year to an outstanding neuroscientist who has made significant
contributions to educating the public about neuroscience. The award consists of
a $5,000 honorarium, plaque, and money to cover travel expenses to the Society's
annual meeting in Washington, D.C. Nominations are due by June 6,

Grass Traveling Scientist Program Requests due July 30, 2008
Since 1973, The Grass
Foundation has generously continued to provide funding for the Grass Traveling
Scientist Program. This lecture series enables local chapters to host
leading neuroscientists at their institutions. Eligible chapters select
speakers to visit their chapter for one or two days, allowing ample time for a
formal seminar and extensive informal interaction with faculty and
students. For a request form please visit the Society for Neuroscience web site. Request
forms should be submitted to chapters@sfn.org.
Fall 2008 Chapter Grant Applications due July 30,
2008
The SfN Membership & Chapters Committee is pleased to
continue the availability of funds for chapter activities for the fall 2008
funding cycle. Awards from $500 to $2000 are available to support and
encourage chapter activities and outreach. Awards are designed to help new
chapters succeed in their local missions, to support chapter infrastructure, to
promote the goals of the SfN Strategic Plan (www.sfn.org/strategicplan), and to
support novel initiatives by the chapters. Chapters are highly encouraged
to solicit matching funds from institutions within their geographic
