In 2001, the Center for Healthy Communities was awarded a Community Access Program grant from the US Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources Services Administration to integrate health and human services for underserved members of the greater Dayton community. A county-wide coalition called HealthLink Miami Valley was established to increase outreach to health uninsured and to develop a Web-accessible data management information system for health information exchange. HealthLink Miami Valley is now HealthLink RHIO, a regional health informational organization providing the governance structure for the health information exchange through HIEx, HealthLink Information Exchange, the electronic shared community health record developed by the project.
