Ms. Parent develops programs and provides leadership to community based coalitions addressing health needs in our community. As founder of the Healthy Dayton Coalition, she assists in planning population-based initiatives to address health issues such as obesity and tobacco in the greater Dayton area.
Ms. Parent develops continuing education programs for area professionals around issues related to the uninsured and underinsured population, as well as the availability of community resources. She has led area health departments in completing community health assessments and strategic planning.
Ms. Parent has also served as an adjunct instructor in Community Health Nursing for the Wright State University College of Nursing and Health and at Sinclair Community College Allied Health teaching Community Health Advocacy.
Ms. Parent obtained her Master of Public Health from The Ohio State University in 1994, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Bluffton University. She is a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES)
Ms. Parent is actively involved in the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE), serving as the national delegate for the Ohio chapter. In that capacity, she is leading a national task force to improve chapter capacity. She also participates in Ohio Action for Healthy Kids Zone 9 which is targeting improving school policies related to food service, nutrition and physical education and activity.
Ms. Parent is involved in the Health Ministries Association, the SW Ohio Health Ministry Association and is active in Parish Nursing at her church.
In her free time, Ms. Parent enjoys hiking, bicycling and gardening.
