The
Ohio Miami Valley Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience
is a nonprofit membership organization that promotes neuroscience
research and education in the southwest Ohio region. The chapter's
sponsoring institutions include Miami University, the University
of Cincinnati, and Wright State University. The chapter's
elected offices rotate annually among representatives of these
institutions. Membership is open to all persons in southwest
Ohio who are interested in neuroscience research. Membership
in the Society for Neuroscience is not a requirement for membership
in the OMV Chapter.

International Symposium Honors Lorne Mendell
Wright State University’s Comprehensive Neuroscience Center will host an international symposium on "Mechanisms of Plasticity in Neuronal Connections" on June 18-19, 2009 at the David H. Ponitz Center at Sinclair Community College in Dayton. The symposium honors the life’s work of neuroscientist Lorne Mendell, Ph.D. The program includes more than 40 presentations by researchers from throughout the world. 2009 Neuroscience Day - June 5
OMV-SfN’s 2009 Neuroscience Day was held at Miami University on Friday, June 5. Carol A. Barnes, Ph.D., Regents' Professor of Psychology and Neurology at the University of Arizona, was the keynote speaker. The topic of her lecture was "Cognitive Changes in Aging: Neural Correlates in Rats and Monkeys."

OMV-SfN's 2009 online membership form is now ready for action. Please renew your membership, or join us if you are new to the chapter. You do not have to be a member of SfN to join the chapter and participate in its activities. Our 2009 Neuroscience Day is free to all OMV-SfN members. See the online form for details.
2009 Winter Meeting
Lori Isaacson, Ph.D. (Miami University) was installed as the 2009 President of the Ohio Miami Valley Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience at the chapter’s annual business meeting held January 30 in Oxford. She was elected as President-Elect in 2008.
Chapter members present at the meeting nominated and elected the following officers for 2009: James Eliassen (University of Cincinnati), President-Elect; Kim Hagler (Wright State University), Secretary-Treasurer; and Amit Singh, Ph.D. (University of Dayton) and Michael Hennesey, Ph.D.(Wright State University) , Officers-at- Large.
President Isaacson announced that this year’s Neuroscience Day will be held at Miami University on Friday, June 5. Carol A. Barnes, Ph.D., Regents' Professor of Psychology and Neurology at the University of Arizona, will be the keynote speaker. President Isaacson submitted a Grass Traveling Scientist Program application to SfN to support Dr. Barnes’ visit.
