Global Health Symposium on Monday, April 7th

The WSU Global Health Initiative medical student organization will host its annual Global Health Symposium and Silent Auction on Monday, April 7, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. in the Rotunda of Dayton's Historic Old Courthouse. The keynote speaker will be Victor W. Sidel, M.D., Distinguished University Professor of Social Medicine, Montefiore Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Bronx, NY. Dr. Sidel is past president of International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War, the recipient of a Nobel Peace Prize. He will address “War and Public Health.”

Dr. Antonia Novello to Speak at Academy of Medicine Spring Dinner

The Academy of Medicine’s Spring Dinner Meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at the Town Square at The Greene in Beavercreek. The event will feature Antonia C. Novello, M.D., M.P.H., Dr.P.H. A former Surgeon General of the United States and former New York State Health Commissioner, Dr. Novello was the first woman and the first Hispanic to serve in these nationally prominent positions.

Class of 2008 Match Results

High noon, Thursday, March 20, was an hour of excitement and anticipation in the Medical Sciences Auditorium on Wright State’s campus. Wright State’s fourth-year medical students matched at prestigious residency training programs across the country including the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York City and UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. About 45 percent matched in a primary care field (Family Medicine: 12.6%, Internal Medicine: 18.4%, Internal Medicine/Pediatrics: 1.2%, and Pediatrics: 12.6%).

Registration Online for Drive for a Difference Golf Outing on Friday, May 16th

On Friday, May 16th, Wright State medical students will host a golf outing to benefit the Jacob P. Deerhake, M.D. Memorial Scholarship and Reach Out of Montgomery County. The Drive for a Difference Golf Outing will be held at the Beavercreek Golf Club. More information will be coming soon.

Gary LeRoy `88 Named Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Admissions

Gary L. LeRoy, M.D., (1988) has been appointed associate dean for Student Affairs and Admissions at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine. As associate dean for student affairs and admissions, LeRoy will work with the 400 medical students at Wright State, from their admission through graduation and on into residency, and will advise the school’s senior leadership on all facets of medical education, including recruitment, admissions, tuition and fees, and academics.

Reunion Weekend: Survey Online

On July 18-20, alumni from the classes of `83, `88, `93, `98, and `03 will reunite in Cincinnati for a weekend of fellowship and fun. As part of this event, a reunion survey is now posted online. Reunion-year alumni, please take a moment to complete this survey and update your classmates on your latest achievements and milestones. Your responses will be compiled into a complimentary Reunion Memory Book made available to all alumni from your class who complete a survey or attend one of the reunion events.
