Annual Memorial/Committal Services

September 27, 2009

Family members and friends of 411 donors to the Anatomical Gift Program are invited to honor and remember their loved ones in the 29th annual Memorial Services scheduled for Sunday, September 27, 2009.  Separate services will be held at 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m.  Invitations will be mailed to family members during the middle of August.

Bus to Rockafield Cemetary To honor the donors and recognize their selfless contributions to the Anatomical Gift Program, Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine has hosted an annual memorial service since 1980. The memorial service takes place in the Apollo Room of the Student Union, and is conducted by clergy of diverse faiths and races so that everyone being honored is represented. These generous and caring ladies and gentlemen voluntarily give of their time and spirituality to make the memorial service a meaningful event.

In addition, medical students, faculty members and administrators who most directly benefit from these anatomical gifts are active participants in the service. About half of the donors who come to us are interred in the Rockafield Cemetery on the campus. The remainder are inurned or interred in locations of their choice. All donors are honored and recognized by name during the memorial service. Approximately 1,200 guests attend the memorial services each year. Generally, two services are held on the same day in the early fall of each year.

Service of Committal at Rockafield Cemetary

Subsequent to the Service of Memory, guests are transported to Rockafield Cemetery for the Service of Committal. This service is for those who have been interred on the campus. Here also, all clergy participate and share elements of each faith.
