To honor the donors and recognize their selfless contributions to the Anatomical
Gift Program, Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine has hosted
an annual memorial service since 1980. The memorial service begins in the Apollo
Room of the Student Union, and is conducted by clergy of both genders
and diverse faiths and races so that everyone being honored is represented.
These generous and caring ladies and gentlemen voluntarily give of their
time and talents to make the memorial service a meaningful event. In addition,
medical students, faculty members, and administrators who most directly benefit
from these anatomical gifts are active participants. About half of the donors
who come to us are interred in the Rockafield Cemetery on the campus. The
remainder are inurned or interred in locations of their choice. All donors
are honored and recognized by name during the memorial service. Subsequent
to the Service of Remembrance in the Student Union, guests are transported
to the cemetery for the Interment and Committal Service for those being interred
on the campus. Here also, all clergy participate and share elements of each
faith. Generally, two services are held on the same day in October each year.
