Dr. Parmelee joined Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine in 2001 after a distinguished career at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine where he was tenured Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics, was awarded many teaching awards, and directed the Second Year Curriculum. He has served on committees of the National Board of Medical Examiners, including question-writing, interdisciplinary review, and standards setting. He is the inaugural President of the Team-Based Learning™ Collaborative, an Associate Editor of MedEdPORTAL of the AAMC, has edited four text books, and authored or co-authored many book chapters and peer-reviewed journal articles on child and adolescent psychiatry, psychoanalysis, medical ethics, pediatrics, and medical education.

At the Boonshoft School of Medicine, Dr. Parmelee has championed the development of Team-Based Learning™ for medical and health sciences education and the Healer's Art curriculum for medical students. In addition to publications on these topics, he has conducted over 40 workshops/presentations on medical education topics for faculty development at annual meetings of the International Association of Medical Science Educators, the American Association of Medical Colleges and the following medical schools:

Dr. Parmelee is a Life Member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
