Since starting her career in academic medicine twenty years ago, as the first Director of Community Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry at the Boonshoft School of Medicine, Dr. Roman's academic focus has become medical student education. Having served as Director of Medical Student Education in the Department of Psychiatry for 15 years, she has developed a national reputation as a leader in psychiatric medical student education. She has worked extensively on many curricular projects, including the development of an Education Chief for Medical Student Education in Psychiatry. The chief resident focuses on direct medical student teaching, while learning about the administrative aspects of medical education and serves as a way to begin to develop skills necessary for a career in teaching. Her research interests focus on medical education research primarily. Clinically, Dr. Roman works at the Samaritan Homeless Clinic, serves as psychiatric consultant to the University of Dayton Counseling and Wellness Center, and maintains a small private practice of psychotherapy. Outside of her time at the BSOM, Dr. Roman enjoys time with her husband, two teenage sons (thus involved with their school activities and sports) and three dogs. |
