Community Based and Health Professions Education As part of its mission to promote health professions education and clinical training, as well as in its role as an Area Health Education Center, the Center for Healthy Communities presents community-based education opportunities for health professions students in the Greater Dayton area. Recognizing that health professionals work in partnership across many disciplines, CHC strives to present interdisciplinary perspectives of important healthcare topics in its community-based education programs. The courses supported by the Center for Healthy Communities provide academic credit and often involve service learning opportunities for students. |
Community Health Advocate (CHA) Curriculum The Community Health Advocate course introduces students to community health concepts, resources, and skills related to the role and responsibilities of a Community Health Advocate, both locally and nationally. Special emphasis is placed on factors to consider when working in community based settings; characteristics of health models and plans; impact of culture and socioeconomic status on the health of the individual; communication; barriers to health care services; anticipated health care needs across the life span; and related community resources.
